First Visit

Your first visit to our office is the most important one. It gives both of us an opportunity to get to know each other. We would like you to be comfortable with who you choose as your dentist and for us to be able to establish a long lasting relationship with you. Therefore this visit allows you and us to determine if we are compatible.

What to expect?
If there is an emergency or specific urgent concern, we will attend to that situation first and make you comfortable. Otherwise, the first visit typically involves a comprehensive exam and diagnosis. We review your medical and dental history and then take a tour of your mouth using an intra-oral video; you will be able to see your teeth from a whole new perspective on a television monitor. Necessary x-rays are taken. The gum and soft tissue is also examined for oral cancer and gingivitis.

When can I get a cleaning?
Typically a “cleaning” is not done during the first visit since we cannot anticipate what kind of cleaning a patient needs or how much time is required without an examination. After the first visit, cleaning and checkup are done at the same time.

When do I know my treatment options?
Your treatment options are discussed at this visit and a written treatment plan is presented.
